This visa enables spouses, parents of minors living in Germany and minors of parents living in Germany to reunite with the family. Other family members such as parents of adults or siblings, aunts and uncles need to prove a severe personal situation when applying for a visa.

Applications need to be complete. Applicants who do not have all requested documents will not be able to submit their application. In this case, a new appointment has to be booked in order to submit missing documents. The following list shall help preparing the required documents. Please submit them in the order mentioned below.

Required documents
General documents required for all types of visa:

  • Passport (signed personally and with a validity of min. 6 months at the date of application, containing at least one blank page); (Original and two copies of all pages that are not blank)
  • 2 declarations art. 54 and 55 German Residence Act, duly completed and signed
  • 3 passport photos not older than 6 months, photos must meet the requirements )
  • Travel health insurance valid for Germany covering 6 months   
  • ID (original and two copies)

Saudi applicants:

  • ID (original and 2 copies)

Non-Saudi applicants:

  • Iqama (original and 2 copies)
  • Iqamas of family members (2 copies)

or - if applicable -

Visitor visa for Saudi Arabia with a stamp of first entry (2 copies)

2) Further documents to reunite with family members in Germany

If joining a German spouse:

  • Marriage certificate
  • Proof of German language skills at level A 1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (language certificate of the Goethe Institutes are recommended)
  • Copy of identity card of German spouse living in Germany (2 copies, front and back)

If joining a non-German spouse:

  • Marriage certificate
  • Proof of German language skills at level A 1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (language certificate of the Goethe Institutes are recommended)
  • Copy of passport of spouse living in Germany (2 copies of all pages not empty)
  • Copy of residence permit of spouse in Germany (2 copies)
  • Certificate of residency (Meldebescheinigung) of spouse living in Germany (2 copies)

If children are joining parents or one parent living in Germany:

  • birth certificate of child
  • marriage certificate of parents

To German parents or one German parent:

Copy of identity card of German spouse living in Germany (2 copies, front and back)

To non German parents or one non German parent:

  • copy of passport of spouse living in Germany (2 copies of all pages not empty)
  • copy of residence permit of spouse in Germany (2 copies)
  • Certificate of residendy (Meldebescheinigung) of spouse living in Germany (2 copies)
  • Lease contract of house or appartment
  • Work contract and proof of income of minimum the past 3 months

Children above the age of 16 years:

  • Proof of German language skills
  • School report cards

If parents are divorced:

  • Divorce decree
  • Proof of parental custody

If one parent is deceased:

  • Death certificate

Please note that the Embassy reserves the right to ask for further documents that could then be submitted later by email or courier
General rules for submitting documents:

If not stated otherwise, please submit all documents in original and 2 copies.        

Foreign official documents need to be legalized by the German Mission of the country that issued the document (exception: documents from Iraq)

Foreign official documents need to be translated into German. 

Only translations of officially recognized translators (either recognized by the Mission or by court in Germany) will be accepted. If translated outside KSA or Germany, the German Mission of the country where the documents has been translated needs to certify the translation.

Applications can only be submitted with prior appointment. Please book an appointment online. Every applicant needs a separate appointment, including minors. Please make sure your data is correct when booking the appointment.
Unfortunately, waiting times for the next available appointment can be long. Early booking is recommended.
Applicants need to come in person because all applicants except children under the age of 12 need to give fingerprints.
The visa fee is 75,-EUR (payable in SAR at the relevant exchange rate of the day). No further fees apply. The application forms are available online free of charge.

Processing the visa will take four to eight weeks.

Please book your appointment by choosing the right category first. If you choose the wrong category your visa application will not be accepted! We have a separate appointment category especially for family members of recognized Syrian refugees.
Each applicant (also minors) needs a separate appointment. Double bookings will be cancelled without notice and future appointment bookings will be blocked.

In order to book an appointment you will have to provide us with a valid email address and your correct name and passport number (in Latin letters). After you have successfully booked an appointment, you will receive a confirmation by email. If you didn't receive a confirmation email, please check your spam-folder before contacting the Embassy. Please present a printout of the appointment confirmation to our security guards at the visa section. Access will only be allowed if the passport data matches exactly with the details on the printout of your appointment confirmation.

Please make sure to be on time - otherwise your application will not be accepted.
