Press Officer / Officer for Media and Social Media Affairs (part-time 50%)
The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Riyadh is seeking a dynamic and motivated Press Officer / Officer for Media and Social Media Affairs, to start from July 1st, 2025 (or earlier, depending on availability) for 13 months in the context of a parental leave cover. This is a part-time position offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Embassy's media presence and outreach. You will be working on the pulse of global political affairs in a motivated, multicultural team.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Managing media communications and representing the Embassy in media affairs.
- Monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on Arabic and English media, with a specific focus on the Gulf Region.
- Conducting research, drafting reports, and creating content in Arabic, English, and possibly German on political, economic, and social issues, including media statements and social media posts.
- Providing daily press summaries on relevant topics.
- Acting as the primary contact for Saudi and Arabic-speaking media outlets.
- Managing external communications, including interview and press release requests, as well as responding to public inquiries.
- Overseeing the media-related aspects of Embassy projects, delegations, and events.
- Accompanying the press delegations in the context of high-level visits
- Attending and reporting on press events.
- Regularly updating and maintaining the German Embassy’s trilingual website and its social media channels (Twitter and Instagram).
- Collaborating with the “Interactive Team” at the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin to monitor social media trends, particularly concerning migration.
- Coordinating and collaborating with the German Information Center in Cairo (www.almania.diplo.de) and other regional German Embassies.
Requirements for the position are:
- Educational background: A Bachelor's degree (Master’s or equivalent preferred) in Communication, Journalism, Economics, Political Science, Social Sciences, or related fields.
- Media and Social Media Expertise: Excellent skills in social media analysis and communication, with particular expertise in platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in video editing, photography, and related creative tools.
- Interest in International Affairs: A strong interest in regional politics, international relations, and migration issues.
- Language Proficiency:
- Arabic: Full proficiency.
- English: Full proficiency.
- German: Proficiency in reading and writing is preferred.
- Personal Attributes: You should be creative, reliable, flexible, and a team player. Ability to work under pressure, independently, and adapt to irregular working hours when necessary (for special events or delegations).
- Experience: Prior experience in media, communications, or international relations is highly desirable.
- For non-Saudis: A transferable work / residence permit (Iqama) is required.
Appointment will initially be on the basis of a 13-months contract, with the possibility of extension.

For non-GCC: In order to transfer sponsorship to the German Embassy, a final exit might be necessary, followed by a work visa application at the competent Saudi Embassy abroad.
